This location is the headquarters for the fire department, which includes administrative offices and a tall tower used for training. At any given moment, one battalion chief and seven firefighters are stationed here. The battalion chief's command vehicle is reserved for situations where it is necessary to direct personnel on location.
Among the various trucks and engine, the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) is used for collapses and heavy rescue. This vehicle carries special tools, including the jaws-of-life, the ability to fill air bottles and on-scene lighting.
Fire station No. 1 generally covers the area from I-880 east to the railroad tracks, from the north part of the city down to Calaveras Boulevard.
