In 1972, the first Colonial Electric Supply store was opened in the Old City section of Philadelphia. The business grew by focusing on core product lines, such as Square D, Thomas & Betts and General Electric, and providing unparalleled service to its two largest accounts, Scott Paper and US Steel. Colonial carries an array of electrical and lighting products, including ballasts, batteries, circuit boxes, switches, outlets, conduit, fans and heaters, wire and cable and metering and testing devices from such brands as Carlon, 3M, Essex, Wiremold and Pass & Seymour/Legrand. In 1977, the company moved its headquarters to King of Prussia, Pa., where its 30,000-square-foot warehouse provides next day delivery to most customers. Colonial Electric Supply operates eight retail centers throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware.
