Headquartered in Wooster, Ohio, the Wayne County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities is an agency serving Wayne County residents with disabilities. The board operates in compliance with the laws, rules and regulations of the state of Ohio and the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. The board comprises seven members, including five appointed by the Wayne County Commissioners and two appointed by the Wayne County Probate Judge. It provide a wide range of residential services and programs, including supported living, Medicaid home and community-based waivers, and residential facility and individual option waivers. Its subsidiary, Nick Amster Sheltered Workshop, provides vocational employment and training for adults with mental and developmental disabilities. The Wayne County Board of MRDD also offers transportation services and operates the Ida Sue School for children.
