Lefferts Historic House is an 18th-century farmhouse and New York City landmark, located in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Operated jointly by the Prospect Park Alliance and the Historic House Trust, this museum offers visitors a glimpse into the past with its working garden, historic artifacts, and indoor and outdoor exhibits. Through hands-on experiences and cultural performances, visitors can explore the stories of resistance and resilience of the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking and Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family, and their relevance to diverse communities today. The farmhouse, originally located near the park, was moved to its current site in 1918. The Prospect Park Alliance is currently developing programming focused on these stories through its ReImagine Lefferts Initiative, funded by a grant from the Mellon Foundation. With its mission to engage the public in thoughtful dialogue about the legacies of dispossession and enslavement, Lefferts Historic House offers a unique and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
