Burke & Parsons was established in New York in 1965, and traces its history through predecessor firms which have served the international shipping community for over 60 years. The Firm has developed an international maritime practice advising and representing institutional and individual clients on a broad range of subjects, including marine casualties, cargo claims, contract and charter party drafting, negotiation and dispute resolution, shipbuilding and repair contracts, ship finance, marine environmental law, marine insolvency and bankruptcy, maritime liens, arrest and attachment, marine insurance and classification issues. Although the Firm's core practice involves shipping, we also regularly advise clients on general corporate, regulatory and commercial issues which are related to that business. Our clients have included leading United States, overseas and multinational shipowners and operators, protection and indemnity clubs, hull insurance underwriters, major trading and oil companies, national governments and their agencies, financial institutions, shipyards, ship brokers, ship registries and a major classification society. We have developed close working relationships with experienced maritime counsel in most of the principal maritime jurisdictions of the world and are able to call upon this network to assist clients with multi-jurisdictional issues which require a coordinated effort across national boundaries.
