The Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Wakefield, located near Lake Quannapowitt and adjacent to the town common, is a Christian sacramental church that prides itself on welcoming all people -- young and old, men and women, gay and straight and all races. The parish was officially established in Wakefield in 1869 and has remained in its current building since 1900. The church holds weekly services on Sundays, weekly prayer groups, contributes to area food pantries and runs a nonprofit, non-denominational children's preschool called the Canterbury Children's Center. It also provides weekly Christian educational programs for children, young adults and adults on Wednesday nights.
