Established in 1971, Family Planning Association of Maine serves the family planning needs of approximately 29,000 low-income Maine women and teens annually. It provides funding, technical support and quality assurance to numerous clinics statewide and operating clinics in Augusta, Belfast, Damariscotta and Rockland. The association also conducts research on issues relevant to reproductive health, offers training on the provision of abortion services to physicians, provides first trimester abortion services in Augusta and South Portland and maintains a full-time statewide public affairs program in Augusta. It offers health care services, such as oral and injectable contraceptives, emergency contraceptives, screening, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and breast/cervical cancer screening.
