The Honolulu Department of the Prosecuting Attorney is a public service agency that prosecutes offenses against the laws of the state of Hawaii under the authority of the attorney general of the state. It additionally institutes proceedings before the district judges for the arrest of persons charged with or reasonably suspected of public offenses. The prosecuting attorney attends all courts of the city and conducts, on behalf of the people, all prosecutions therein for offenses against the laws of the state and the ordinances and rules and regulations of the city. It additionally draws all indictments and attends before and gives advice to the grand jury whenever cases are presented to it for consideration. The department of the prosecuting attorney is located in Honolulu.
