Commissioned by Dwayne Hanberry, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III. SCAC was founded in 1962 and consists of institutions where the primary focus is academics; therefore, SCAC does not offer athletic scholarships. Its members compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, field, hockey, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field and volleyball. The SCAC's states with member institutions include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and Texas.
