Emory University was founded as Emory College by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1836 in the small town of Oxford, Georgia. The college expanded to the Atlanta campus and was renamed Emory University in 1915. Known for its prominent location in the Atlanta suburbs, the university is home to undergraduate and graduate students. Emory has nine schools and colleges, including Emory College of Arts and Sciences, Goizueta Business School, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Candler School of Theology, Rollins School of Public Health and the Emory University School of Medicine. The school sports team is the Eagles. The Emory Eagles participate in 18 Division III sports including tennis, swimming and diving and volleyball. Students live both on and off campus in and around the Druid Hills and Virginia Highland areas.
