Once a small technical college on the outskirts of Farmington, Tunxis has grown into a state-of-the-art academic institution offering 38 associate's degrees and 24 certificates. For many students, that translates into a direct path to a career or guaranteed admission to UConn or one of Connecticut's state universities.
An addition completed in 2008 added a 20,000-square-foot library with a hanging-art installation, computer terminals, a study space overlooking the campus and hundreds of books and periodicals. The campus also houses a NAEYC-accredited day care, where parents may enroll their children and early-childhood students may do observations.
The college's dental hygiene program, the only one in the state, is taught in on-campus dental labs and is part of the answer to Tunxis' question: How can we prepare graduates to meet the need of local employers? To this end Tunxis also offers 11 programs leading to medical careers.
