The Peck Place School has provided elementary education to first- through sixth-graders since 1969. It has a strong emphasis on community, which is obvious in some of its interesting quirks. Principal Al deCant starts each school day with his "Welcome Song," which greets the children with "hello" in several languages. The school motto, CARING, stands for "courteous, achieve, responsible, neighborly, interested and growing." Parents volunteer regularly, and twice a year, members of the community come in to read to the students as part of the Adopt a Reader program.
