Oak Avenue School is one of seven elementary schools in the Los Altos School District.
It has a high ranking of 983 in the 2009 Academic Performance Index.
Some of Oak Avenue's enrichment activities owe to the facility's proximity to Mountain View High School: The high school choir teacher works with grade-schoolers here in the morning. Oak Avenue has a Science Fair and Geography Bee each year.
The school features a Creative Play and Educational Garden, built with the idea that children integrate what they learn in the classroom through exploration and play in a natural setting. Nesting bird boxes were placed around the campus as part of the California Bluebird Recovery Program.
