The City of Lake Forest doesn't own its city hall; instead, it rents space in the same office building that houses the Johnny Rockets restaurant chain's corporate headquarters. The city council meets every other Tuesday night and is composed of five residents, each of whom is elected to a four-year term. The mayor is selected from the council by a vote of the council at the end of every year. Like many newer cities, Lake Forest contracts out city services such as landscaping maintenance to private firms, and the police force - headquartered at city hall - is provided by the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Unlike many cities, though, Lake Forest does not issue or require business permits. As the city's community center, the building is also a hub for senior events and city-sponsored community activities.
