Dr. Giovanna A. Giannico is a board-certified UCI Health pathologist who specializes in genitourinary diseases and disorders. Her clinical interests include kidney disease and general surgical pathology. Giannico earned her medical degree at the University of Bari Aldo Moro Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Italy. Next, she completed residencies in renal and anatomic pathology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., where she also received fellowship training in surgical pathology. She comes to UCI Health and the UCI School of Medicine from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she served as chief of genitourinary pathology. Her research interests the mechanisms of prostate cancer progression and recurrence, prostate cancer biomarkers and the molecular mechanisms and histopathology of humoral rejection in kidney transplantation. She is the author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Giannico, who is also fluent in Italian.
