The Conejo Players Theatre was established in 1957 when a group of 10 ten people put five dollars each into the original treasury. Since its first production, Nude With Pineapple, the Players have operated successfully both artistically and financially. Conejo Players has presented more than 300 shows. Its main stage productions have included drama, comedy and musicals. The theatre operates solely on a volunteer basis. The theatre's board members, actors, production staff and technical crew do not receive any monetary compensation for their services. The Conejo Players rewards contributions made by members and nonmembers rather than making presentations for 'Best Play', 'Best Director,' etc. At each year's Harlequin Awards Banquet, the actors get a chance to applaud the people who toiled behind the set, in the tech booth, building sets, selling tickets and doing all the other tasks that come together in the performances seen by its audiences.
